Posted by Jewel: Windshields are not tempered glass. They are two pieces of raw glass laminated together.

Please tell me, with all you wisdom, How are windshields made? I have visited many production plants where glass was made from sand into sheets of plate and then curved by a Guess what, heating process that does what tempers the glass. All sheets of glass from plate to mirror to flat laminated to windshields all have a certin amount of "tempering". Don't believe me? try to cut a piece of plate glass that has been tempered too long, I'ts like cutting what glass installers know as a backlite or door lite.It is the amount of tempering that makes all the difference. Had a box of plate glass 70x130 come in years ago that had been tempered too long, when I scored it then tried to break it, it shattered like a door glass. This is when I learned about the tempering process.

Also, Have you ever seen a windshield with waves in the glass, almost make you sea sick to look too long? This comes from heating the glass bending then cooling quickly.
