I am so glad you don't have to be a genius.....now maybe I can do it too.

I think it depends on the gun. I have worked with a a lot of heaters and heat guns of various sizes and styles over the years, and I'm always amazed at how much power most of them require. GT said he could not run his heat gun on high with a 1000W generator, so I was going off of that.

Some of the new inverters are great if you can get your vehicle close to the cars you will be working on, however I used to do a lot of government work on the weekends and do to the way they parked their cars at night I sometimes could not get my truck within 100 feet.

I guess you can run an extension cord off an inverter just as easily as off a generator, but with some of the fleets I did I was parked in one spot for several hours at a time, so if using an inverter one might need a backup battery system or an isolator that would not allow your battery to be completely drained.

When I had a mobile pressure wash business I found that not all generators powered equipment the same, even though they were rated for the same watt output. A 4000W commercial generator would power my equipment just fine, but even a 7000W portable unit wouldn't do the job. I had that explained to me many times by electrical experts, but I never did quite get it. I wonder if you run into the same issues with inverters.

I believe some guys who run inverters leave there vehicles running.

I'm pretty sure extension cord length and gauge is another factor in loss of power, the shorter thicker cord is always the better.

Heat gun's I have two, a $20 hardware brand and a Steinel, the Steinel is a much better heat gun, I cant explain why except it cost well over $100, even on the lowest setting it does a terrific job.

I have found there is a big difference in heat guns as well. I once purchased a used one that looked like it had been drug behind a car for a couple hundred miles. I later found out it was about 15 year old, but it still performed very well for me for many years. It was an all metal work horse but a bit bulky to pack around.

I have heard the Steinels are very good, but when my old standby took its last breath I had to get something quick and the Makita was the best one I could find at the local hardware store. I don't remember what I paid, but with accessories I think it was over $100 as well. Since I have tried a few of the cheapos for backups, but they just don't do what I want them to, and don't hold up to constant use.

I do also have an all plastic one that I mentioned in another post. It's a great gun for shrink wrapping and due to the fact that the tip is plastic is safe to throw back in your tool box, or even lay it on a hood protector right after use. The only draw back is that it does not have as many temperature settings as the Makita.

My Dvelup kit arrived and I have completed (4) cars so far and the results are great. You guys were right....it's a good product.

Did you pay for your kit doing 4 cars already or was them your trial cars?

Yes, the kit is paid for in full.....the rest is profit.
