I might be stating the obvious here, but is the break only on the outer lite of the glass? Make sure there is no damage to the inside (inner lite) glass. If both lites are damaged, the glass should be replaced.
Also, since it is such a hard impact, you should see if any of the legs of the break go to the surface or if they are all subsurface. Use your fingernail or a razor blade to check to see if you can feel any of the "legs" on the outer surface of the break outside of the pit area. This would affect your ability to create vacuum and pressure...

Wow, so capping with pit resin works?
I had never heard of that. I assumed that the resin would cure and block air access to the star. I did not think drilling into the capped area would allow space for the resin to flow to the cracks.
