Possible to polish small pit with Cerium Oxide?

Hi:

I have a very small pit in my windshield, probably about 1mm in diameter. It is minor but annoying and there are no cracks in the glass as a result of the pit. I'm wondering if it would be possible to polish the pit itself and not the surrounding glass with cerium oxide. I realize that the pit will never go away 100% but if I can improve the way it looks with polishing I'll try it. Any advice would be appreciated. I would also consider filling it with pit filler.

No. Do you do windshield repair? Not sure by your post.
If it's a really small surface scratch, then it possibly could be polished out with the same procedure as a wiper scratch, etc. But that's not what you described.

Only thing you can do with a small pit, is fill it with a repair resin and polish it. 1mm might be a little too small to get a good result with pit filler, but if you use a fresh drill bit to scuff it first, it will work fine. Wet it with chip resin, and let it soak for a minute, before using a pit fill resin. Make sure it's completely cured, and use a fresh razor blade to scrape it. Polish gently with a clean rag/towel. Done correctly, this will not make it invisible, but will can make is much less noticeable.... should look pretty nice.

Actually, there is one other thing you can do that helps just a little, when you have a really small pit... simply wet the pit with resin, wipe excess and let it cure. This just dulls the appearance, makes it a little less noticeable because it doesn't shine as much and won't have that white crushed glass look.

Thanks for your advice. You are correct, I don't repair windshields. I really want to get rid of the white crushed glass look as you described. I will get some pit filler resin and follow your instructions.

No problem. Btw, thinner resins will more easily "soak in" to these small pits, and that's what you need in order to mask the white/shiny look.
