I still have yet to find any car that I can cut a factory applied clear coat off from a 500 disc. What am I missing?
In the Delta manual, it states that experienced users may start with a 500 disc if the lens has minimal deterioration. What defines minimal deterioration? You need to get off the original UV coat and a 500 doesn't "cut" it. Help?

Re: Starting with a 500 disc?
Not sure what the issue is. Does it gum up? Maybe use a cleaner on the lens, or wet sand by hand briefly before using the dry sander, or wet sand with the machine sander.
I use 5" paper with a standard "woodworking" sander and 500 will easily cut the old coating on most cars. There are a few cars that either gum up or are difficult to cut with 500... but even then it gets the job done if you don't have anything more aggressive and are willing to go through a few discs.

Re: Starting with a 500 disc?
Ypu shpuld start with a 320 if the 500 isnt doing the job. You will know within the first few minuts of sanding if you need to go lower. Also stock 2 packs of 180 (20) FOR HARD LENSES. PRIOR TO THE NEW iNFINITI 4.1, i STARTED WITH 320, 600, 1500 THEN POLISHED. NOW i USE 320, 500, 800, 1200, 1500, POLISH WITH PAD .
