Chad,

Thats great. I am sure you will have a great time both visiting and competing. 2 tips for you... 1.Try not to let the pressure get to you( I know easier said than done) 2. Bring your "A" game becuase if the competitors are anything like last year it will be a tough field for sure. I wish you the best of luck.

SGT & All Fellow WSR TECHS,

I appreciate your kind words of incouragement, However I have decided it is best to cancel my proposal to attend at the 2009 WSR Olympics this year.
My ultimate goal in competeting isnt for publicity, Yet I want to compete to WIN! I feel that to WIN I must aquire my Delta Kits Training along with my NWRA Certification and more Experiance in the Windshield Repair Profession (Hands-On & Knowledge)

I do understand that these (Delta Kits Training & NWRA Certification) are not needed to compete but I feel that with Industry credentials such as these it would give me an upper hand in the competition.

I hope all of you can understand where I am coming from as I want to make an impression on the WSR Industry. Also as a Delta Kits user. I hope to have your support in the near future when I am ready to WIN It!

Again Thank You!!!

Chad,

I certainly respect your decision. To some degree I aquired my certs for the very same reasons and thought they would give me an upper hand as well. Having the benefit of hindsight now, I can tell you I do not think that they mattered one iota for the contest. Kind of sad that organizations, sponsors etc. want to create a certain industry image but do not place value on those certain accomplishments that a tech can achieve to promote thet very image.

This was not to create a rash of negative posts on anyone or our industry; just my own personal take on the event since I have been through what you are facing. If you truley want to compete and honestly feel you are capable of doing well on all levels then throw you name in the hat as I still do not think all the certs in the world will matter.

Good luck either way.

Just to clarify, the link Frank posted is to the Auto Glass Technician Olympics which is also held at NACE. Both windshield replacement and windshield repair are part of that competition, but the focus is primarily on windshield replacement. The Windshield Repair Olympics only covers windshield repair. http://www.repairolympics.com/

Thats interesting. I thought the deadline to register was Sept 25th originally and now it appears it is bumped out to Oct 16th. Maybe the interest level is just not there this year for whatever reasons so they are extending the registration.

Taken from http://www.repairolympics.com/

Attention Inquiring Contestants
You must be employed currently as a technician in a bona fide operation auto glass company and you must have at least one year of experience as a repair technician in the auto glass industry in order to compete. Please note that there will be a cap on the number of contestants and spaces are given on a first-come, first-served basis. Be sure to register early. Owners or managers of supplier companies may not compete themselves. Pre-registration deadline for contestants is Monday, September 25, 2009, at 5 p.m. EST. No registrations will be accepted after this date

Well I threw my name in the hat again this year. My focus will be the same as last year. Meet and learn from others as well as share were I can contribute something of value, enjoy seeing some old friends and of course enjoying Vegas with my family. Of course winning would be a nice bonus. Hopefully there will be a lot of competitors.

For those going, hope to meet you.
