We have a few accounts that are dedicated used car lots and they have a better turnover rate than some of our franchise used car lots.

Well, like I told previously (I stay in MI currently) we do not do any dealer work, but it is very sad to see the empty lots and buildings.
In Nederland everything appears to be not all that bad, I mean, people do complaint and businesses close, but man, things are much worse over here.
There are foreclosures and vehicles, boats etc. sare being seized, but we also have a governmental support system (I hate it though, I am forced to pay too high taxes and premiums). Over here (MI) I have spoken to some sales people, and most haven't sold any cars for many weeks, sometimes months. It leads to broken-up families and other sad situations. The poor guys haven't made any monies because they are 100% on commission and don't even have decent options because there is no way they will find another job here in MI (Metro Detroit). There is just one positive thing though.....: The American people and economy are much more flexible, things will be better. That doesn't pay for the groceries, gass, insurance and other expenses in the intermediate though!

As for the car dealers: there is not much one can do, many car dealers are sitting ducks. Some have invested in overly costly locations. Many have multiple franchises, but even than: if there are no buyers, or less buyers and people delay their repairs and maintenace (which is usually where their money is made) and that situation takes too much time, they too will be forced to wind down their business one day.
