Pommy, I write what I feel and I am certainly not going to change to keep you happy. You have the option to not read my posts, seems like a couple of very experienced guys already agree with me.

I think my reply was extremely constructive, where as tool box on the vehicle can be destructive.

Boat- and motorhome centers are good places to find these mats too.

I admit that the ''lazy'' bit was something I thought about for a split second.
Next thing was; the guy may have some health issues. I don't know, so therefore I am not going to comment on that.

The main purpose of a forum like this is: sharing and discussing opinions, problems, ideas etc.
This is NOT an ''America's next top modell'' kinda contest. The comments here, especially those from experienced people, are based on many yrs of experience.
There may be some friction between the various system-users, sales approaches, franchisees and ''independents'', fleet people and parking lot operators.
Who cares? It should not matter. As long as we have a place like this where we can all join and discuss, and let's be glad that a supplier (not even mine) is willing to invest time, energy and money in this, we should all be doing fine. You get free advice and comments, sometimes it suits you, sometimes not.

The toolbox on the hood / bonnet was discussed in depth about 2 years ago on this forum and we basically came up with the same opinion at that time. It is much better to err on the side of caution when working on a customers car and keep all tools off of the car.

I try to put myself in the customers shoes and think if I would be happy if a tech. put a toolbox on the hood of my $60,000.00 BMW or Mercedes (or my 1985 Toyota), with or without a mat.

Wow. Some of you just seem to be here to bitch and infer that everyone must be stupid. Maybe pull your head out, and assume for a second that other people may also have some common sense. There is a clear difference between not sugar coating things and speaking facts, and just being an ass. I think it's called tact... or maybe the issue is humility. Also, the world has variety and not all situations call for the same level of caution or custom.

First off, not all cars are equal. Dark paint without fresh wax, will show a mark if you just look at it wrong. White or silver car? You would have to be a retard to leave any visible marks. What about working on a basic grocery getter that the owner clearly doesn't take good care of, versus a the opposite... like a shiny black 7 series BMW, or Corvette, etc? You can bet that I might place something on the hood of the not-so-nice car, but never on ZR1.

I agree that there is a risk of leaving a smudge on the paint, any time you would place something on the hood of a car. So, yes.... it is prudent to think twice about what you use to protect the paint, or if you should place anything on the car at all.

But, also consider than ANY TIME YOU TOUCH A CAR, even when leaning against the side of the car to work on the w/s.... your pants or shirt can also leave the same type of damage to the door/fender. So REALLY, what these guys are saying is that we are foolish, unless we cover the whole side of the car with plastic before doing any work.

While working at a dealer on time, I had an asshat salesman stand there and ask if I was going to charge them $xx and then pay $xxx to have the paint buffed out. I told the idiot that if he could find the damage, I would have it taken care of.... and that he won't find it because I'm not an idiot. Good grief, it's a car lot. All the cars are messed up with poor detailing and washing all the time, and people walking the lot touching all the cars. And he was worried what I might be doing to a couple of cars?

So here is my take, what I do. I sort of agree with screen and others who don't put anything on the car. The difference is that I'm reasonable, and realize there is a time and place, and method... where it's fine. Again... a high end vehicle in a customer's garage is completely different than a fleet job or old grocery getter.

1. I don't use a hard plastic tool box. I use a softside case. It may not be much better, but I can say it looks less out of place on the "bonnet" than a big gray plastic box. My case also allows me to actually place it on the w/s itself, sometimes without touching any paint at all.
2. When my bag is touching the paint, I use a microfiber towel under it. Microfiber is the least likely thing to scratch paint. It's what a detailer would use when wiping down their work.
3. I keep a spray bottle with waterless car wash stuff... it's designed and sold to clean your car without scratching. Quick spritz with this stuff and wipe with a microfiber... that is textbook car care 101. Then I'm using a microfiber to protect the car too.

So you can sit on your high horse and make blanket statements about how I dare place an item on a customer's car.... but you know not what you speak.

If you cannot bend for medical reasons then get a table, even maybe a trolley type one with wheels.

I see something I feel is wrong and I am going to shout and loud, I do not worry that I might inadvertently upset one person along the way as long as I tell the new guy what the options are.

High horse or not, you have your opinions of what is right and wrong I have mine.

Come on guys. Nobody needs to judge anyone here about ideas. Could be that a few thought they had a good thing going and was so excited about and just had to share it with everyone. This is something we all do, until others come along with different perspectives. Its how we grow and make things better and really, debates on forums such as this one are good but nobody needs additude from anyone else. Again, we all have different ideas we share. Some good and some bad.

All theis cutting edge technology by delta kit tools would have never came to be without many different opinions and different perspectives from others. SO BE HAPPY!!! Just my opinion .
