Hi,
I have seen a few references in the posts to 'delamination', someone warned against it happening, another said he would pass the repair if so. What exactly is this in the windscreen repair world and how is it identified?
Thanks

What is delamination?
Re: What is delamination?
Delamination is when the laminate(PVB) seperates from one or both pieces of glass in the windshield. Usually it will look like an air pocket or bubble in the glass. If it's aound damage in the glass, when visible it typically looks like a "daisy" or flower effect around the damage.
Re: What is delamination?
Just to add, some of the most extreme cases are on older vehicles. It can be identified by the white you see in the glass at the edges. Delamination can also occur when doing a repair and too much heat is applied to the glass while you are pressuring resin into the break. (or the glass is not cooled enough before repairing) The resin pushes out from the repair area in between the outer lite and pvb causing the daisy effect as Mafsu stated.

Thanks, then I may have seen it before on a very old break.

Re: What is delamination?
It has happened to me sometimes if I am using too much pressure trying to force resin into stubborn stars that are under/inside the bullseyes.
