Transfering Windshield Stickers

Here in New York you have a registration and inspection sticker on the windshield that needs to be transfered from the damaged windshield to it's replacement. How would you remove these stickers without damaging them?

Most state/government issued stickers can be removed with the help of the right amount of heat, a new razor blade, and a steady patient hand. Heating up the sticker with a heat gun can be helpful, but if the sticker is brittle there is probably little hope of saving it. The main reason this type of sticker is difficult is because they are designed to stay on the windshield, only to be removed and destroyed. Although it is possible to remove and reapply these stickers, it may not be legal to do so. For instance, military issued stickers are not by law illegal to remove and reuse, but federal regulations prohibit such practices, therefore making it illegal. What I suggest, is contacting the issuer and finding out what the law says, that way you are not in danger of breaking any rule and being fined or prosecuted.

In most states its against the law to remove the stickers, It is in Texas but law enforcement is exempt from it. They suggested our tech use non ammonia glass cleaner or a mixture of soap and water. Spray the sticker and keep the blade wet once the sticker is off set it aside and let it dry while running glue and installing the glass. Make the stickers the last thing you put back on. It works great and you cant even tell they have been removed.

Check your state laws before removing any stickers Texas is a $1,500 fine and then $5k and then 10-15 years in a state prison if caught a third time.

We always let the customer know that it's not guarenteed that we can transfer them without damage but use both the methods mentioned above and both work.
