If dirt is present in a starbreak or any break is there anything that I can do to clean it? I was asked to fill a break on a bus. I advised the customer that the damage was too dirty, but I will fill the damage as best I can...
Again is there anyway to clean damaged areas??? Thanks Clay507
|

Clay507,
You asked, If dirt is present in a starbreak or any break is there anything that I can do to clean it? Clay, I personaly use 99% Isopropyl Alcohol from a company called Crown. We use it a lot in the Airline Industry. We also use acetone but I don't use it for windshield repair because it is a medium grade solvent. I am not sure what would happen to the PVB laminate by using acetone. It might break the laminate down. Maybe someone else has some factual info on this. There are others that sell kits for cleaning. Check with your supplier. Pay it foward, Brian www.safeglasstechnologies.com info@safeglasstechnologies.com
|

Janvil used to sell clean-out products, but found them too difficult to ship because of increased shipping regulations. However, one of their most recent newsletters contained good information on cleaning cracks and other damage using products commonly available at the drug store and/or the hardware store.
Check it out.
|

Sprinter,
First I wash out the break. I always let it air dry. This concentration of alcohol evaporates quite rapidly. The reason I let it air dry is due to the high flash point. Our purpose is to repair the damage not make it worse which a potential flash might do. I always try to repair without drilling unless it is a crack. If drilling is neccessary then I clean first, drill second and clean again. This works best for me. What works best for you and why?
