Default US Windshield

Terry;
Be sure to get as much information as possible on each and every system available. Most companies will send you a package that will include a video of their system in use (which usually also shows procedure for repairs start to finish), free samples of their resins, a catalog and price list, as well as background info on the company and their track record. I would suggest you also contact the Better Business Bureau in their area to see how many complaints have been registered, and if and how they were resolved <---- the resolution is very important. It does not appear that you are shopping price alone, and that is good. You need to look at all aspects of the companys' policies, and especially their customer service and tech support. Since you are planning to be mostly self-taught, the technical support is vital. There are a number of companies that will help you in that area, even if you did not purchase from them, because they have a strong committment to the windshield repair industry.
I use the Glass Technology system. I narrowed the choice down to three ... Glass weld, Delta and GT. I chose GT for a very practical reason... they were the closest to me geographically, so we could drive there for training (and hubby could do some fly fishing too <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"> ). I think it would be safe fro me to say that if either of the others had been that close, I might have chosen them instead.
Even so, I have no regrets. I do top quality repairs (I'd like to show you my work, but I cant <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)"> ), and boucou referrals from happy clients.
I must say, however, that the quality of your repairs is not as dependent on the quality of your equipment as you may think... with the exception of making sure your seals are fresh and making good contact with the glass. The equipment I was using prior to GT was a cheap knock-off of an already cheap product, and with that I learned to do very high quality repairs. They took longer, and presented frustrations I no longer experience, but the repairs still looked good, because I did invest in quality resin as soon as I knew it was available. (My "trainer"? told me that I couldnt get resin except through him, because he was the only one they would sell to in this area... he was buying at $15 a half ounce and selling to me at $60, and it was not a quality resin). So, once you settle on the system you feel is best for you, be sure to use a quality resin. As Brian has said, the top ones will produce similarly good results that you can be proud of in the finished repair.
I wish you success in the wonderful business. Grace

Default re: which system is best?

I folllowed gold sta windshield repair's advice and checked the bbb for us windshield repair.

www.labbb.org/scripts/cgiip.exe/WService=wsbroker1/C%3A/Inetpub/wwwroot/SouthlandReport/default.htm?hCompID=13118043&amp;hAKAID=1&amp;hAdd rID=1

It shows one unresolved issue...I'm sure it's not a big deal, but something you may want to ask about when you talk to them.

Also, i will request videos from all of them, that's a good idea!

Thanks for all the help, and I hope to post more!

Which GT equipment did you use? What made it less frustrating than the cheaper equipment?

Default GT

Terry,
Check with Liquid Resins for a training tape. It's over 2 hrs long and very thorough. They sent me an injector and tape for free to try out for 30 days--I found the injector to be a little complicated (I sent it back) but the tape was very detailed. Very basic, and not like a professionally made tape, but very informative, lots of good information, and a few tips and tricks that I've not seen on other tapes. Also their manual is good too.

Default training video

I started with the GT 20-20 system, and upgraded to the VP-5000. Both are excellent systems. The frustrations I experienced with my original equipment were in the area of drawing and holding an adequate vacuum, and also in getting enough pressure when needed. These problems extend the repair time, and unless a UV protective screen is used, the lengthened time can result in the resin curing before the repair is completed.
