Default Re: OK then

How many of you knew about windshield repair before you thought of entering the business? How many actually had your windshield repaired? I am constantly amazed at the number of people who have no idea they can actually have their windshield repaired, and get quality work. If you took your car to a body shop and got a subpar paint job, would you write of body shops all together or would you look for a quality body shop? From my experience the large glass compnies(Diamond,Safelite,Harmon, Etc...) don't even take windshield repair seriously. I was performing a repair for a dealer a couple of weeks ago and the glass installer who was also on the lot doing work came over and asked what kind of equipment I used. I was int middle of placing the bridge on a star so I told him I would show him in just a sec. He then proceeded to start ranting about the junky equipment they had for repairs. As he described the equipment I thought "now he is really ticking me off, he is virtually describing my equipment". So I just told him it wasn't the eqipment it must be "operator error". We went about our business for a few minutes and he again came over to see how the repair was coming. He was amazed at what I had done with tools so similar to the "junk" his company had. I then explained my repair process to him, and he explained how he had been trained to perform repairs(very similar to the % minute repairs I have seen paeople post about). Sorry about the rant. It's just a shame for the industry that we haven't figured out a way yet to educate the general public. Until I figure out a better way I'll just keep teaching them one at a time. I was just reading the posts asking for Brian's direct billing letter and I was thinking "don't hate the player".

Default Frustration

mafsu,

I am guilty of what you mentioned. I did not know that windshield repair was an option before I started my research. I feel your fustration my friend. I constantly find myself comming from a position of having to convince the general public that this a legitimate repair practice and yes it might even be free with there comprehensive insurance. It is sometimes hard to get past this mindset and the ways that would ease the scepticisim make this hassel free experience a hassel. What is even more disturbing is the insurance agents I have talked too associate the word repair with replacement. They themselves are uneducated about windshield repair or think it is a gimmick. I will keep doing what you are doing...one person or business at a time. Stay focused, it will pay off.

Pay it foward,

Brian

Funny you should mention insurance agents. I have done about a dozen repairs for one of my insurance agents. I have my vehicle and life ins. through him. To be fair I only think three of them were for his personal vehicles. His wife owns a small business the others were on her delivery vans. How did he pay for these repairs? Cash, because he is afraid to place a claim on his insurance. But I digress, after all his cash is as good to me as the ins. company's cash.
