Default Im New

I am Bill Richardson. I have a windshield repair business in Moreno Valley, CA. My city government says I am an automobile repair dealer/shop, therefore I can only repair windshields in an enclosed facility. I am registered/licensed as a mobile repair business and can only do the repairs at the customers home or business, not outside. I am told that windshield repair is exempt from State licensing, but the Bureau of Automobile Repair of California says I need a State license which also would mean I am an automobile repair dealer. Is anyone else in California, that does only windshield repairs, having the same problem? Any suggestions on how to get around this? Are there any regulations that says we are exempt? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Default State Licensing

Bill, check with State about Glaziers,(glass workers) requirements. You are not an automobile repair shop. You are a glass specialist.. Whole different kind of animal. Repair shops usually have to be State Inspecion Certified. As a mobile glass repair person, I would definately check into the catagory that they have you listed in.. It is wrong.. Get it changed.

Bill, I wonder if your local glass installers, or competition, are putting money in somebodys pocket to squeeze you? I never heard of this. Glassdoc is right check you business license, and see what category your listed under.

Default I wonder

Hello,
I'd suggest calling the licensing agency a few more times and speak to a different person each time. Some folks are power hungry, some are anal and some just know there job! I operate a Paintless Dent Removal company in San Diego, and had the same issues when licensing.
They said I was a body shop; but no paint or bondo is used. They said I was a mobile mechanic; but nothing mechanical is worked on. The third call got me the answer I wanted. I took her name and made detailed notes on our conversation. She saved $200-$400 and I'm legal... FYI, Jason
