I've been in some good areas lately doing retail! Walking the lots finding repairs and going into the business and pitching my line. I"ve been in some perfect areas, small business parks, 3 - 10 cars out front but probably 75% have had the dredded "No Soliciting Signs". Yikes, So the other day I was fed up with them. I was in another good area, 5 businesses in a row, cars a bit sporadic. Found a Camry with several batwings, and a few stars. So, being the closest business had a "No Solicitng" sign. I said to self, "I'm going in there and just asking if the Camry belongs to anyone inside. If it does, I'll explain what I'm doing (the very short version) and excuse myself since they have a "No soliciting" sign. If it doesn't I'll ask the other businesses.

So I went in, did my little spiel, and the guy says. Thats my car. I said "Well you do have a no soliciting sign, so since you do. I'll go ahead and leave" Next thing I know he's asking questions about how it works.

So. It was a sell. Man the guy had like 8 small chips in his windshield. Unbeleivable.

His insurance was AIG/AIU, the cheat sheet thats posted on Delta says I should get paid 60/20/20, however I was invoiced from ACT only 50/10/10.
Is the sheet wrong, or did I get taken? Anyone know?

The art of selling without appearing to do so I have used this method for years whenn needed and found it works great. You have to be able to adapt to the different situations give yourself lots of openings but at the end do not forget to ask for the work. I have trained people that could really stand and talk screen repair all day long but could not bring themselves to ask for the work. Quite often this is the question the customer most wants you to ask.

As far as the no soliciting sign go's you provide a service not a product and in most cases are doing them a favor most people want them fixxed and have either put it off or just didnt have the time to pull into the local replacement shop. I never pay any attention to the sign and have never been told "Didnt you see the sign?"
It really doesnt apply to what we do. And if someone did complain what do I care ? His loss Kinda like the lady last winter with a Audi wagon that was bothered that I would aproach her in the line at the carwash and pushed a real attitude.Well when she came out the other end of the carwash tunnel with a crack all the way across the windshield I couldnt help but laugh histericly when she asked if it was to late to have a repair done now.

Default ethics...

Thanks Screenman and GlassStarz. I'm a little hesitant about going in a business with the "No Soliciting sign" but like you said. What are they gonna do, ask me to leave. So next week I'll approach with a different fervor and go into those businesses with the sign. Hey, it will definetly open me up to what I've been missing these last few weeks.

Mike, I have been in door to dooor direcit sales in 1 form or another for over 20 years. I have found that the no solisiting sign usually means a sale! A lot of people put these up because they can't say no( isn't that great)!
And yes we provide a service and are just trying to help them save $$$$

Default side window repair

So Mr P, I take it you ignore that ugly little sign too?
BTW I love your view on them, that they can't say no.

Someone once told me those "NO Soliciting" signs really mean Windshield Repair Techs Only! Thats ME! Thats the attitude I choose to use :P I'm not selling a product just a service that I get chased down the road to perform sometimes.

Hi Madmike- I was wondering where you found the cheat sheet of what Ins. Co. pay? I have searched and can't find it.
I did a repair for a lady who had American Family and wasn't sure what to bill. I did a repair the day before that and got a fax that Encompass pays $59.95 for the first and $10.00 for the additional 2 if they are there. It still goes through SGC for billing and they told me to bill the $59.95 and if they won't allow that they will adjust it. I really don't want to bill higher and look (in my eyes) unproffesional. Could you please refer me to the "cheat sheet"? Thank You very much and happy repairing, mepoozer

Karen, Here is the link for the Insurance List.

http://www.deltakits.com/insurance.htm

I couldn't find it right away either until I did a search thru google under "windshield repair direct billing insurance list"

Its been a big help. Especially when I can always (so far) tell a customer exactly what there insurance plans to pay. Or if they don't pay.
