Lee,

Just what condition are you referring to? Did you see this windshield? Just because a windshield has 5 or more breaks, in my opinion, does not justify a replacement. Depending on the location and size of the breaks would I suggest to the customer to repair or replace.

Masterglass can speak for himself but maybe this customer did not have the cash to replace the windshield or maybe he did not want it replaced for fears of leakage or a faulty install.

When do you tell your customer they need a new w/s? Only 5 breaks on a w/s? The question is when do you tell a customer that they would be better off with a new w/s? 5 breaks 10 breaks or when you can't sell them on any more repairs? Or do most of you just milk it for the money?
Are you really concerned about your customers and their safety? Nothing better than a windshield with multiple repairs and that looks like a shower door. Oh yeah I forgot we are saving the environment by not replacing a glass. When do you say replace?

Default Replace?

I say replace when it is in the best interest of the customer to replace. Their are many variables that are used to make that decision but basically what it comes down to is can I repair this windshield in such a way that 1) It is as safe as a replacement would be 2) will this customer be happy with the results. I currently have five repairs on the windshield of my Chevy Tahoe. If I gave you half an hour I bet you couldn't find them all. If you are ONCE AGAIN trying to put down the repair industry in favor of replacement. You are barking up the wrong tree.

I did 14 on one bus screen the other day and the customer is still happy, these had all been caused by kids throwing stones. This was a £1000 screen.

Lee, I will not even address the specifics of you're insinuations untill I have a little more information about your experience level and background. I can assure you the windshield looked nothing like a "shower door" and is completely safe. I recommend replacements all the time. Mostly on cracks and anything in the acute area of the windshield. The only individuals I have dealt with that have such an attitude usually are in the windshield replacement industry. As far as the comments on the F-150 with 5 breaks, I personally respect your opinion that you would have recommended replacement. One must know one's own limitations

Guys, as you suspect... Lee is a replacement guy trolling for cheap shots at repairs.

If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck and sounds like a duck.... quack quack!!....

It is what it is.

Default I survived Delta Training

Why don't ducks fly upside down? They don't want to quack up. Opened the doors in 1960 full service auto glass shop. Last big job was clear custom windshield and back glass for a cadillac concept car and windshields for a Lexus concept from the movie "Minority Report" that they are also using for the movie "Islands". We offer windshield repair to our customers as a courtesy. Never said anything bad about windshield repair just wanted to know where you draw the line. 5 sounds like too many. There is enough auto glass replace/repair business for everyone to make a good living. Keep the prices UP. Don't know how it is in your area but around here (So. Cal) a 3 year old windshield looks like it has been sand blasted.
Peace Lee
