Why would anyone lie about this? It would be easier not to post at all. Fleet and dealers account for about 95% of the work I did last year. The number represent work done by me, I backed out work done by employees.

So apparently the majority are making at least $84,000 a year doing windshield repair??? I doubt it!

That would assume that we all work 40 hrs a week crackhead. To be honest most guys I know got into this so they could make a good living and not work as much. If i can work less than 25 hrs a week and clear over 40k why not? The question was how many repairs in a full 8 hrs working not hard to figure out

"we" doesn't count in the survey... unless each employee is doing the # selected.
Very very few average 14+ repairs per 8 hours every day...if they work every day. That's $130,000 for a 40 hour workweek at $35 per car. Very nice! On a good day sure 14+ is no big deal... and I can see this if you don't work every day, or work 4-5 hours a day. I recently did twice that # in a 9 hour day... but that's not normal by any means. On a personal note, I don't really know how many I do per 8 hours... I don't count the hours I work. I know it's less than 8 hours a day. Now that I think about it maybe I do closer to 14... ha ha ha. At $30 per car, 5 hours per day...that's only about $260 per day at the "14 per 8 hour" rate. Can I edit my vote? I don't see a 25+ category... funny topic |

Well this is difficult to answer. When I was doing my fleet accounts, which I don't do anymore Ihave an employee doing them, I tried to get minimum $200 per day. So if I charged $25 or $30 per ship that would be about 8 chips.
If I am inside a Jiffy Lube type location I expect about 5 to 6 a day. If I am at a captive tent location where the person stops and stays with their car .. like a gas station or car wash etc ... and it is NICE weather I do about 8-12 insurance deals Captive tent and poor weather but not raining, say it is just really cold out, I do about 3-8 Raining outside I don't work usually At a drive-by location where people see my tent andhave to pull off the road specifically to see me I average about 7-8 a day currently I normally work no more than 7 hours in a day as it gets dark real early now but in the summer my numbers go up because I am able to get the rush hour traffic that ia m not able to get now in the dark. These numbers are what I do not what anyone else in my company does. Also the number of rock chips in Oregon is way less than that of many other states. Where in about 70% of the states most windshields have rock chips .. in Oregon very few windshields have rock chips due to our mild climate and lots of rain to wash the rocks off the road. Each rpck chip we get is a fight and you really have to maximize each opportunity here. |

I think one of the points of this info is that you can make a good living doing a few chips a day or alot of chips per day Crunch the numbers. This is an incredible business no matter how you go about it! Just do it and be consistent!

Isn't it amazing how a simple poll question can get so intense!
I'd say that the key word in this poll question is AVERAGE. We all should know that some days one may only repair a couple windshields while other days maybe 15 or more. |

I am writing this on my Treo 650 out at a tent site .......I have 4 for the day already, just for rivia sake.
I think it is important to look at what kind of chips are being done as well. If someone is looking at this biz and thinking they can do 14 insurance jobs a day while the person saying they average 14 is doing fleet work for half the insurance company charge. It might be a bit confusing. That,s why I broke my chips into groups. |

Not sure what 8 hour average repair #'s really mean or equate too! Doesn't mean much to me personally.
If your in any business, the only numbers that mean anything are net profit numbers! Gross sales minus expenses. I you don't believe me simply just ask your accountant or financial advisor. He could care less about how many repairs you've done over a 8 hour period or for that matter over a year period. |

I really don't care what your gross receipts or net profits were. I really don't care how many repairs you perform in any given day, on average.
It's just a simple poll question! |
