Brian,
Sorry to hear about you bad business deal, what a bummer. On another thread you boasted about being able to get 1 fleet account a day, that's super! Figureing conservativly that is aprox. 200 fleet accounts in 12 months, avg $100 on first call (2 repairs) $200 / month (4 repairs) = $2500 / fleet account / year. So you should bring in over $500,000 a year! That should get you out of debit very fast! Just wonder how you can take care of that many accounts? I admire you for wanting to pay off your debits, a lesser man would bail. Good Luck to ya.

Boasting I think is a strong word. If being tenacious is something to boast about then ok .. I was boasting. When I say I could go out on any given day and get at least 1 account that does not mean I go out and get accounts everyday. In fact I don't even do fleets anymore .. I have a fleet guy doing that. What I do is not special it is just a different way of looking at things. Alot of people set a goal of visiting a certain number of fleets a day and they count on the fact that 1 of the 10 fleets they visit will have something for them .. if not they go to the lake and fish. My strategy is I haven't hit a single account until I do work, so if I don't get a job that day I have effectively done nothing. it is just my way of looking at it and it works well for my personality.

Also it is a wise move to, at some point, stop GETTING and start servicing existing accounts.

Coming back to the original post I think a better question might be what percentage of turnover is taken up by fixed costs.
Mine run at 12% before tax. This should mean the the more you turnover the smaller the % will be as many of the costs are fixed, car, insurance, uniform, etc. etc. The only increase should be in non fixed overheads such as fuel, resin, drill bits, etc. A good excercise at the end of the month is to devide your overheads by the amount of repairs you have carried out (be very honest) and this will tell you excactly how much each repair costs you to do. This will help also when deciding to give discount or not.
