Kenb81...maybe I shouldn't be saying this but what the heck. Why don't you come out to strathroy and cut a deal with the ctc store there. Its brand new and really big.I reallize that that will put you maybe a little close to me (15miles) but maybe we can work together.I am probably going to try and work the area more west of me anyways so as long as we keep our prices in line with each other maybe it could be a benifitial arrangement to both of us in terms of getting the word out that this service is available.

at the risk of butting my nose in where i don't care if it belongs matt i have to stand up for coitster on this one for 2 reasons. 1 he happens to have some of the BEST marketing advice ive seen on this forum. (and yes i USE it and YES it WORKS) and 2 telemarketing is a good way to market provided you do your homework and get a call list that covers your target market, or that follows up on materials you've mailed prior to the call. there are so many ways to market that i myself was either unaware of or thought were foolish because i hadn't scratched the surface of how i could make it work for me. Because of reading prior posts from coitster and a few others ive now got "an arsenal of marketing weapons" (if you recognize that phrase you understand the concept) that i wouldn't have had otherwise.

Hey Matt,
Well I sometimes will be very general but when it comes to Car Wash's I still think they are bad. I still to date have never seen one done correctly and most insurance companies don't like carwash's doing windshield repair. As for telemarketing, I personaly think that it can be one of the strongest ways of getting business, both new and fleet accounts. This I can really comment on because I personaly have built 15 seperate telemarketing rooms for glass companies both for others and myself (4 for myself) when i had a full service glass company.

That being said, some people look at telemarketing like a physics professor would look down his nose at a freshmen student trying to tell him about math. Some people like it some people don't. What I don't like with telemarketing is the cold calling aspect like not sending a mailing first or some other form of ice breaker. If done correctly it can be increadible.

Coister,
Have you ever tried this approach:
Have you gone door-to-door and offered them to repair their vehicles? If you have (or anyone else) please share the pro's and con's. Please! Thank you very much!

ClearView,
Yes I have and thats how I did my business for many years and still do to some extent today. I love starting out the day with not a single job and then coming in at the end of the day with $350 + in jobs.

You Have A Point Coitster, But You Can Fix It With A Hat!
My Family Has Been In The Glass Industry For Many Years "all Aspects, Flat Glass, Auto Glass, Mirror, And Pdr. We Currently Own And Operate Nine Car Washes In Southern California Auto Glass Is A Huge Part Of Our Buisness And So Is Pdr. Its All In How You Train And Manage Your Employees Just Because You Failed In A Car Wash Don't Shoot The Idea Down (99.999999999999%) I Agree Some Fly By Nighters "scams" Are Out And About. Car Washes "if Managed Correctly" Are An Excellent Way To Market Any Service After All Tele-marketing ? Wow ? I Love Those Unexpected Phone Calls ! Tooldini I Think Your Idea On The Humane Society Is Great And You Sound Like A Smart Guy Sorry Not Everyone Is Positive! Good Luck And I Hope You Post Your Results!

Thanks freenclear I listen to everyone and I think it is just that somethings work for some people and not for others. I would think the telemarketing thing would work great but I would not be good at it so I would never try it LOL. I have to return a call to the humane society tomorrow so maybe I can make some progress and work something out with them. Also different areas will need different marketing techniques. Mine seems to be a pretty open market except the dealers, many of them are already taken by friends of the owners and things like that.

thanks
Jeff

Ok I think I need to clearify some stuff. First off FreenClear if you are making a CarWash work that I think thats awsome. I always love to see people make some business's work. Like I said in an ealyer post there are always exceptions to the rule. I don't think car wash's are very good but for those that can't thats great.

Personaly most people don't like telemarketing, I don't, however if someone works I don't have to like it. I just have to capitolize on it, I havn't ran or used a phone room in almost 9 years. I still do some cold calling by phone and when I do it personaly I have fantastic success with it. Say that I hope that no one else will use Telemarketing to get business. I want to be the only one. I personaly hope that so many people believe the typical stereo types that people assign to it stays there. Remember if it didn't work it wouldn't be a multi-Billion dollar industry.

As for some of my other marketing idea's I don't expect them to work for everyone, as a matter of fact after a lot of sole searching and other reasons I hope that most people stop using all my techniques and find their own way of doing things and tell me about it. I have helped tons of people on this forum find ways of getting business and teaching people all over the place how to get more chips every day, but no one seams to want to share their idea's with me. That being one of the major reasons I stopped talking on this forum for the last year. I still read all the time I just don't respond very much anymore.

Also one last comment. I learned that when people read my posts because of all the advise that I have given freely over the years if I even remotely endorse something and say its a good idea people that have no idea how to sell or run a marketing campain effectivly run out and get involved. I have seen this happen several times and then they fail misserably and go broke. At that point I feel some responsiblity as to why they failed because they thought that I said it was ok. So I am airing on the side of caution and recommending people not jump into different marketing ventures without doing very complete research.

Nice Coitster,, everyone needs to do some research before they jump into anything. Hey as far as telemarketing goes the guy that fixed my first chip a few years ago worked for a guy that got all his work that way. The guy doing the calling had 3 guys working for him 6 days a week each doing about 10 a day. Of course their work was very bad LOL he repaired mine in about 6 minutes in the middle of winter. Repair looked crappy in about 3 weeks. you can do the math on average of 25-30 repairs daily X 6 plus they charged most work to insurance and charged 20 bucks to come to your house LOL Even after he told me that I still don't wanna do telemarketing but hey it works if you want it to. The employee told me all of this so I did believe him.
