Default Needle for making be

Hi,
Can anyone give me more info on using a needle for making a small bullseye. Presently I am using a very thin probe with a flat point, but these are scarse and difficult to obtain here. I believe some are using some type of needle, can you give me type and thickness and do you keep the point of flatten it? I would like to keep a few as backup in my van.
Thanks
ChipRite

I think that the ones I have are #18 sewing needles for a sewing machine although they are tricky to use with the tiny fg329 bit.Work good with the 1171 bit though.I have had good luck useing my probe to do it also.

Thanks,
I will be switching to FG-701 drills, using FG-2 at the moment. I understand that the needle then just has to be thinner than the hole which in my case is .039"?
Do you keep the sharp point or not?
Thanks

Yes there's no need to dull the needle. GM sells tappet and needle sets for around $5 (the tappet is a piece of thick plexiglass about the size of a box of matches that you whack the top of the needle with after inserting in drill hole).
