Default repairable?

Hi, yesterday I was driving on the highway and a small piece of debris smacked into my windshield and it caused a couple of tiny nicks on the surface. Normally I would leave it alone but the debris (and i guess the shock of the impact) also caused a small, like 1/4 in burn? mark inside the glass (It might be a crack too but is it possible to have a tiny crack inside the glass?). When I feel the outside I can only feel the two nicks and from the inside of the car, the windshield feels perfectly smooth. I don't mind leaving it alone forever b/c the car is a really old but Im afraid it might spread. So does this sound like something I can just leave alone? Thanks!

Sounds like a small crack from the impact, since you say you can only feel the nicks on the outside. Hard to say without looking at it but that's what it sounds like. You should have it looked at. What part of the country are you in? There is probably a tech on here that can help you.

Sounds like you have maybe a partial bullseye chip with some air in it. The air inside is what makes it look like a burn. I'm guessing it looks black to you.

You never know with chips if they will actually spread or not. I've had some that spidered on impact, but never seemed to grow and I've seen tiny little chips spread like crazy. I'd say the more extreme your weather, the more chance it has to get worse.

Repairing it now is kind of like getting an insurance policy. You might be wasting your money, but you might also be saving yourself a $200+ replacement. I'd probably have it repaired, but back in the day when I was short on money, I might gamble.

Thanks guys, I've made an appointment for Safelite to come and work on it tomorrow. I didn't want to take any chances and it is like an insurance policy. I'm in New York so the weather does get quite extreme. Its going to be 95 or so tomorrow, sigh. When I looked at it very closely, there clearly are cracks/fracture lines on both ends of this black looking chip. They're like eyelashs. However, the whole thing is like no more than half an inch wide.

Thanks for your replies!
