The majority of repairs caried out in the UK are by replacement guys. They have and have not been trained to use any dry out system, they do not have UV screens and some have only used a 20 minute video for training before going straight out without practise and charge. I bumped into one of the major companies the other day who was trying to fill a 6 inch crack in the rain with no shelter or dry out. The replacement guys can earn in excess of £300 on some screens why would they want to repair it? Also the major screen replacement firm over here is charging £68 for a small repair.
I may not be a legend but amongst my customers and some of my friends in this trade, I am well respected for the knowledge and time I have put into windshield repair. Lets all aim for higher levels of expertise.

Screenman.
I see it in my area everyday, it's not just a UK problem, it's really a problem everywhere. Your right, a high percentage of glass shop replacement technicians have never been trained properly or simply could care less about attemping to provide a quality repair. Personally, I hope it stays that way! |

StarQwest, you and me both.
Sunshine,Toab did that answer your question. Have a good look around your own area you will find the same thing happening.

Oh, it's happening in my neighborhood too. Doesn't do much good to bash them on here though.

Sunshine I am not sure what you mean, I do not consider a guy or company that does windshield repair without proper tooling or equipment worthy of calling a windshield repairer.
What damage does it do to tell it as I see it surely it gives confidence to the newbie that is doing it right. Knowing that the people they might think of as competition are really not that much to worry about. As a lot of you who have read my previous posts will already know I do not keep quiet just to please a few people. I state again windshield repair and replacement do not go hand in glove. If someone in the street offered you $50 or $300 who would take the $50.

When I started WR I worried about what the competition was doing. It didn't help my business at all. For me, if I concentrate on what I'm doing things seem to fall into place (most of the time).

For what it is worth Screenman I appreciate your comments. You are certainly experienced and have likely seen more sub-standard repairs than most.
