I'm kinda curious about the magnifying glass idea.would not want to make the beam too sharp though and cause temperature instability in the glass.Can you say..CRACKOUT!

Thanks glasseye... I might have to do some myself... wonder about bouncing UV off a mirror... then thru a magnifying glass.
For those of you that "Just don't get it" I am NOT suggesting that we should all cure our repairs only with sunlight bounced off a mirror thru a magnifying glass... we just learn thru science and well, never mind...

I have often bounced uv off the mirror onto the repair site. I have never seen the need to direct it through a magnifying glass. Usually w/s repair mirrors have the magnification process built into the system.

I have found that using a magnified mirror placed on the car hood directing sunlight onto the curing film does rapidly accelerate the curing process...
Holding a magnifing glass in front was too cumbersome... off to practice my speklling skills....

You might want to consider that glass does not transmit UV radiation well. At least that is what I read some time ago. So you might want to make sure your magnifying glass is plastic and not glass.

UV can be "bounced" by the use of a mirror. The strength of the rays are not weakend because they do not pass through any medium. If you are familiar with Laser technology, you will recall that it is light that is bounced back and forth between mirrors and columinated to focus the beam into a very small area and then released from the device. The word laser itself is a an acronym for "Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation. In the bouncing of UV rays, I do not bounce them from a mirror then through a magnifying glass...the strength of the rays is sufficient to cure the resin in a short period of time.
