Approx how many claims of failed repairs or ( spreading of cracks ) do you guys get. I have had 3 call me in 5 years and 2 were easy fixes on repairs that looked good and filled when completed. This is out of many hundreds or close to 1K repairs. Just wondering what you guys have and hope you tell the truth LOL and not say none in 20 years or something crazy like that.

Jeff, not exactly sure what your asking. Do you mean repairs that where backcharged by insurance or networks for cosmetics results or repairs that simply failed and cracked out?

Both I guess just curious to see what others would say. I would love to have none but I have 3 know and I don't like getting a call saying something is wrong with something I did, I guess it is something to expect in a repair type business. I asked if it was cracking and he said no it is chipping, so I assume he means the pit filler is coming out. I remember having a hell of a time with the repair so I kinda wouldn't have been surprised on a crack. It was one of those deals over the phone he said dime size but when I got there it was like half dollar size on a Cadillac CTS.

So jeff if you think it was just pit filler coming out it would not qualify as a failed repair ..over the years the same would happen to me.. just pit filler..so i filled and customer was happy..also I have been called and they said it was cracking..I always check it out..no crack..just the way I left it..just wanted to be sure..had one very nasty daisy break crack out 3 weeks ago..first one in a very long time...all in all very rare

LOL I had 3 false reports of cracks a few weeks ago in one week. They all had just not really noticed the scarring until days or weeks after I left. I usually tell people to keep an eye on the repair just to be safe. Once their eye locked in on the scar they thought it was a new crack. A waste of time but something you have to do to keep customers coming back

Well Jeff have to be honest with you,
I've provided over 1,400 insurance repairs in 2006 and 39 where back charged to me. Never had one fail or crack out but on lease returns many of the saved 4"-6" crack repairs where rejected even though they held and looked fine. That's why I'll refuse most insurance crack repair these days. It's a wasted effort. Even the best crack repair can be visually picked up and will always be at the discretion of lease man or women. Of the other 39 in question many where already pre-contaminated with Rain-X, car waxes or other applied windshield treatments. Cosmetically, they were repairs provided at a disadvantage. What can you do about that? Except to promote "chip savers", some prefer to call them "contamination savers" and hope they use them in the future. For the small amount you had refused, I'd say your doing well but don't hold your breath....insurance and networks can back-charge your service repairs for years and for no valid reason. I just got one that was back-charged from Jan 12th,2006. Called Harmon and they wouldn't provide any details. So called the customer and they said repair was fine but they didn't want to take the chance on lease turn in when they found somebody to waive deductible and replace windshield free of charge! What more can I say? |

I don't do any cracks for the same reason. I hope I don't get many from way back that would bother me but I realize it probably will happen sometime. I have been doing a lot of luxury vehicles lately so I wonder how thats gonna go LOL Mercedes, Lexus, Bmw, Cadillac, Volvo I would bet they are tougher than the cheaper cars on lease turn ins. So seems my numbers aren't so bad. I know my repairs have been pretty KICK ASS lately. Thanks for the help

In 4 years, I've been called by customers to check on repairs probably a dozen times. Of those, 5-6 actually needed re-work (end of leg opened up, etc.). I also refunded fees on 2 long cracks that failed. Additionally, I had 2 insurance refunds due to appearence (repairs were good).

So it seems pretty normal to have some. I think it would be impossible for this biz to be 100% although I am sure there are some on here that would claim that LOL. Bois I think I will stay away from cracks totally after hearing from starquest and you. One of my touch ups was a 4 inch crack that started cracking from the other end even though it looked totally good after the repair.

I went to check that car yesterday and he decided to get a new shield. It was a very strange bullseye that I had a hell of a time filling. It ended up not looking 100% and it was on a nice caddy CTS so he wanted a new one. The chipping he was talking about was just the fact that when you ran his finger nail across the pit he could feel it. Pretty sure he just wanted a new shield
