That wierd because when we have tried your method the drill do not work at all. Why do you need lubricant? surely just not allowing the drill to heat up will do. Most trainer go with the idea of very short bursts on the drill no more than a couple of seconds, then allow to cool for the same amount. That is why the LR drill works so well, the on off switch is the same as on the very early Novus ones. In fact its almost a copy.

But if it works for you then that will do.

There are times when I don't use lubricant "nothing wrote in stone" but have you ever watched a machinist in a machine shop? They use oil for lubricant when they drill if they are in a prolonged drill out to reduce over temp. The same principal here. The most important thing is "SHARP BIT" . And you are certainly correct when you "Short Burst" or "pulsation action" while you drill. My favorite bits are diamond impregnated, those are the bits that you really have to keep lubricated while you use pulsation action or they will burn up. When used correctly diamond bits will repair 30 to 40 times.

But back to the beginning thread question. I love to drill. I use the highest viscosity resin that I can. Drilling allows and assist me to do that. When I have a fully open break then it is possible to do that. When the breaks are tight and my judgements tell me not to drill then its another story.

I think a machinist in the shop might not be able to stop and start like us to keep the bit cool. try the carbide bits I would imagine 100 to 150 repairs is not out of the question using them the way we do.

Screenman, over the years I've tried different techniques, different pressures, different bits, different this that and the others, and for the life of me I can't come close to that many repairs per bit. Maybe I'm standing on the wrong foot while I'm drilling, I don't know. I wish you would make a video and put it on YouTube so I could watch your technique.....NOW THATS AN IDEA RIGHT THERE I DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE!!! Or maybe its these cheap bits I buy

That is a fantasic idea, I will certainly do that when I am more photogenic. I think just very very short bursts of the drill and allowing plenty of time to cool down and yes I suppose quality bits. With my height I am lucky if I have any feet on the ground when repairing a chip.

I also average over 100 repairs using tungston carbide bits. The only time I get less is when one accidently breaks while putting my dremel in my tool box. As to using lubricant, it doesn't work very well with these.

Ok, What I'm going to do is get a high quality tungsten carbide bit and practice on my short burst. Practice Practice Practice Thanks.
