As far as what bad repairs vs good repairs look like visually? That's easy! Just use your practice shield and make some really bad ones on your own. (i.e. like introducing water to damage... then repairing without drying out)

I know even in the PDR business your can't make everything 100% perfect! In windshield repair you can't make anything 100% perfect (perfect is a new windshield). You may be able to acheive 99.9% cosmetics on some repairs but I'd say average is 85-95%improvement. If you can provide that consistantly and fully explain this to customers you shouldn't have any problems.

This has been a great thread for me. Something we have neglected to do in training is show a repair that is not done properly and/or not acceptable. We work very hard to make sure every repair is done properly, and although it sounds silly, it never crossed my mind to show an unacceptable repair.

We do fill a break with water and dry it out, and once in awhile someone will do a repair that is not up to par, but with proper instruction most are doing great repairs right off the bat so trainees do not usually see a bad repair.

We do explain to trainees that in training classes we are working in a controlled environment with new glass and new breaks, so not all real world repairs will look quite as good as they do in class, but showing everyone is a very good idea.

I'm sure they were, but that was weeks ago. My primary business is PDR, and haven't until recently found a used windshield that was totally shattered. I believe from the feedback that what I'm doing are good repairs. Thanks for all of the advice.

When I first started I went to the local wrecking yard talked to the owner explained I needed practice and spent several days working on the wrecks. This way i got lots of real world experience on varios types of breaks in every possible condition i would advise everyone to do this the practice windshield is fine but its not on a car and the break is fresh
