Why are you not giving a warranty on long crack repair? What length of crack will you warranty? If you are being successful at long crack repair, why no warranty? What makes it differ from regular repairs? I said warranty too much, huh?

Screenman,

I personally gaurantee all work I preform. As a professional, I evaluate the damage and if I feel the repair will hold I gauantee it. If I feel it wont then I wont do the repair, otherwise that might be considered unethical on some level RIGHT? That is just me though. To each there own.

I would like to here how you sell a customer without a warranty for one type of job and offer a warranty on another when the same equipment and materials will be used. If I put myself in the customers shoes here, it would raise a red flag for me.

I completely understand the reasons you may not like to offer warranty for cracks but are'nt those the very reasons you should decline the job? Safety, Saftey, Safety. What does it say to the customer in the end about you?

I have been offering a life-time warranty on long cracks similar to rock chips. And, I've had good luck so far in that only 3 customers have called saying their crack opened or spread (in 3 yrs.). However, after reading some of your comments, I'm going to re-think the warranty issue.

I will do cracks up to 15" depending on location, age of break (& vehicle) and appearence. If the break enters the acute area, I will soft sell repair and suggest replacement. If the customer insists on repair I thoroughly explain the visual results (i.e., possible "cat hair" line, possible bouncing or bending of sunlight or oncoming headlights, etc).

It's amusing how some customers say they only want the crack not to spread any further and, once repaired, complain about the asthetics.

I warranty all damage up to 6 inches over that it is up to the customer. I see no safety problems with a 18 inch long crack in a 64 square foot piece of glass. Coach and truck screens do not hold back airbags or provide much in the way of structual support on our commercial vehicles unlike that in a car.
As for selling you just say to the customer, we can not repair that and give a warranty but I think there is a good job we can repair it and it will hold, they will buy it.
As for being professional well maybe I am not as much as some of you, but I sure know how to make a good living from this business and have done for 20 years and that is what I am in it for.

As I have said many times before on this forum do what works for you, but I am sure not leaving money on the table.

Sorry just cant get onboard with that. I think most customers would question why not. If I choose to do a job, I believe in my skill wether it is a chip or crack or I should not be doing the work. Just my philosophy and certainly does not have to be anyone elses.

I have done work were I have told the customer we cannot guarntee it will pass inspection though even though I felt it can be structurally repaired but we still provide a moneyback guarantee. We cannot control each and every inspectors decision to pass or fail.

We will have to agree to disagree on the gaurantee.

I agree. To each there own and we should never leave money on the table at what ever level we all operate at.
I can only hope to still be doing windshield repair in 20 years. Congrats on your milestone.
