I just picked myself up from the floor! Laughing too hard. I have not tried Barry' method (turning around and expecting the UCM to follow) but the visions that come to mind.... oh, my God! Not saying it would not work, but I don't think I have the *#@+ to try!

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who promotes 5 minute repairs as being acceptable is wrong, not matter how smart they are.

I laughed too. The only thing following in most cases would be the door hitting me in the butt on the way out!

Here I go again agreeing with somebody. I think maybe 5 minutes is the time to properly fill a dry chip, not cure and scrape and clean the screen etc. Not many very dry chips takes longer than 5 minutes to fill do they. It is the dry out, curing, cleaning etc that adds to the time. As for more than 3 bridges, well my brain just cannot cope with any more. The nice thing about this trade is the very many ways you can go about earning a very good living.
Now what is a good living is it one where you work flat out 10 hours a day, or you coast 3 or 4 hours and go fishing. Let you know when I catch something.

I started out in vinyl repair maybe 8 years or so before I started windshields. I remember my boss training me back then for car lot work, "If you can get the manager to walk out with you, that's the best." That's because most of the time the dealers don't even know what needs repairing til you bring it to their attention, and of course seeing is believing.
I might add, after you've serviced the account for awhile, the opposite is true; If they are willing to just look at your list and ok it without looking, that means they fully trust you. But for brand new accounts getting them out to look at the problem would be the ideal. |
