I think it is nice when other members of the forum fill out their profiles. It gives us a mental picture of whom we are dealing with.
If some people choose not to fill out their profiles I wont lose any sleep over it, but I am more appreciative of those who do.

No apology needed. I agree that it's a considerate gesture when people fill out profiles on public forums, but I personally don't view it as a necessary formal introduction.
