Has anybody ever done work on the road while away from home? I will have to be traveling soon and would like to continue to do some work. What kind of experience have any of you had doing this? Is it legal to do under your business license?

Technically probably not legal in a lot of cities, but who's gonna enforce it? Would never happen for somebody just passing thru. I've had occasion to (before I moved to Canada). And I've known people who've done it, made extra cash on the road, and even a few who traveled cross country with the express purpose of making money in auto recon while they got to see new places. Rule of thumb was to avoid dealerships and concentrate on used car lots who cut you a check upon completion.

That is one of the great aspects of this business. Should you have the need to relocate you can put food on the table anywhere. This trade provides a skill that can be utilized where ever you go. Cash is cash where ever you go. Seems like fair game to me.

Road triping is harder than local!! For sure, It is an avenue though. So if your "on your way" then You may service an acount or two. The small car sales outfits are a good idea but it's cash and carry for the dealings there. I've done this but it's not something I would recommend for a new guy, You gotta be able to sell in a bigger way on the road than you would say in a fleet (or) personal situation, if that is what you need to do today, well then fine. What your saying is " I have a short term goal".
If your goal short term then fine ...... what's next? Oh if you do thiw kind of sales You can fudge a bit on the permit/licence etc. Best ofluck on your trip! See the sights, (find chips in the area) ,then worrk and play at the same time.

I've been stopped by people who see my truck when I've been out-of-town asking for a repair. If I have my equipment (seldom) I will do the repair. The only problem is my warranty. I tell them that I warrant my work but I won't drive xxx miles to cover the warranty. All I'd do is refund their money. OR, they could drive to me.
