I just went through my numbers and 2007 blew by 2006 very well.
I am doing more cash and less insurance than any year previous by choice. I hope you all are finding a bright spot in spite of the outrageous prices for fuel. My best decision for 07 was going with a scooter as needed to keep fuel costs in check. The best bonus of all was taking 4 weeks vacation for the year! Good luck to all in this amazing business! |

The biggest part of me deciding to own/operate my own business was the ability to take the time off when I so desired..When I worked for someone else, I had to ask (felt like begging) just to get a day.. Bust my arse for 2 weeks a year, and have to take them at their time of choice.. Nope.. Was not idea for me. After I watched both my parents work their entire lives with hopes of retiring at some point.. And the time came that they were financially comfortable, their health was far below normal.. They never got to enjoy what they worked so hard for.. So.. long story short.. I work, I pay the bills, but if I want to take a day or a week or a month off. I do.. life is too short to punch a time clock or feel like you are on one. I take on average 9 weeks vacation time per year, all major holidays and Elvis's birthday.. Hey, its my biz.. I make the rules..

9 weeks vacation time is wonderful, I thought I was doing well with 3 weeks, I have to ask are you mostly retail, Insurance or wholesale ? What happened to your parents happens to many people, sad but TRUE. Good luck to you, Attitude is Everything. |

Well, in answer to your question. Its all retail, isn't it? I do not do Insurance work per sey.. What that means is, I do not bill the Insurance Companies.. I collect from the customers, and let them hash it out with their respected companies.. And as mentioned before, I do not go by the "pricing set in stone" that so many Insurance companies have.. My repairs start at $65 and go up.. I also have several accounts I visit weekly, but after 16 years they know if I'm not there just sell it with a "we-owe" and I'll get to it asap. I spend alot of time going to carshows, not to promote the biz but to actually show my work truck. Managed to take 1st place last year at "all truck nationals" in my class.. Its something I enjoy doing and it gets my name visibly seen by thousands every year. I'd put up a pic but not sure if Brent is ok with it. Hope that answers your questions..
