12 Volt portable power

Hi,
I have just seen the Black & Decker Simple Start power supply, it is small, has charger included from mains plus vehicle and was wondering if anyone is using it.

Will it be able to handle the Drystar?

Additionally, it has a light, battery charge state indicator, 12v socket, warning beeps, it just misses a handle!
This looks like a good buy to replace my large emergency battery jumpstart pack.

Anyone seen or used this?

I can't say for certain, but I would think it would power a Drystar just fine. We use a small battery pack that fits in a tool box to power the moisture evaporator and I believe the unit you are talking about puts out more power than ours does.

Of course the age and condition of the battery are also factors to consider.

Going by the specs of the Black & Decker simple start it should be plenty of power the power the drystar. It has a 12v power port on it for 12v usage.

This unit is more than sufficient to power 12v devices and will hold a charge longer than some of the smaller compact devices.

You know one of the great things about this business is the ability to be mobile. If primairly you will be doing fleet/dealership accounts and will be walking from unit to unit this might be a little cumbersome. On the other hand, if you will be a fixed location without a 110 source this type of 12v source would be benifical if you are doing medium to high volume.

For myself, I use the DK 12v source to stay as light, compact and mobile as I can. Less effort when moving from unit to unit. I think I get on average 10 repairs but that would depend on your usage.

Funny this was brought up at this time... I have my jump box that holds a charge normaly 2 weeks of so, I forgot to charge it over the weekend and it died today. two weeks ago it died and I was out with no power inside a garage and had to run a long set of 12v cords to use the lamp off my truck. When I got home I remembered I have a 110 to 12v converter and though it in the truck for the next time that would happen and I can just plug into a 110 outlet to use my 12v light. Well, I was out on a job on a lot with no power and no outlet to plug into, But I now carry my honda 1000 watt gen. I just pluged into the generator 110 with the 110 to 12v converter and had light. I had 3 jobs today that were overcast or the UV was not up to snuff being early.

It has been worth the price for the honda... I am charging as we speek now... I love backup power supply.

I bought the converter from Radioshack a few years ago for another use.

They were telling me that they sell a lot to guys in home workshops to use there takeout radios from their cars to work in the shop on 110...

Just another idea for anyone that needs it. Just to use in the customers garage if your box dies instead of running off there cars... Some people are strange that way not to use there 12 v thinking it will drain there battery..

I carry 2 small motorbike batteries and they need charging every couple of months. If it did not cost so much to post I would have a couple of the Delta kits power packs. I also larger power pack for my PDR light.

I use one of these for my light and drystar. Works fine but requires charging about twice a week.

I have a 2750 watt power inverter mounted under the drivers seat. I use it primarily if i need to polish a wiper scratch out on a lot, but in the winter when temps are in the 20's like today. I plug in a 1 foot extension cord and a dremel charger and keep my drill batteries charged.. The cold weather kills them quick.. The inverter has enough power to handle the GW polisher or my own buffer for polishing/touch up at car shows. And, if your at a truck meet, it will power up that 32 cup coffee maker.. LOL

We use 9.6 and 12 volt makita battreies to roll up electric windows. Small light weight no need to worry about acid. Might work for you.
