I have just bought a GPS system MAGELLAN Maestro 4250 4.3 screen trust me you will find it very help full, for getting around towns for insurance work I have put away all the road maps of the Boston area . You will have to take the whole unit out of the vehicle at night, do not leave the gps bracket on the vehicle windshield your vehicle will get broken into, the GPS is a hot item to be stolen??? I checked the Consumer Repart regargding the top 10 gps I was told not by a cheap one, a cheap gps system told a freind that it was LOST ?????

I would hate to be without a GPS system, I even have it on my phone as well.

I will be getting one in may I can't wait. I was looking at a cheap one for 79.99 but after reading posts on the net about it I decided to get a better one I think it would just lead to frustration which I don't needed when I am out getting lost. The one I was looking at was a Nav-cam 2007 I wouldn't recommmend after just reading a few things about it.

How does the ones in the cell phones work? I am using NEXTEL / Sprint at this time. My contract ends in Oct. and was thinking of changing to a better Cell service, and one feture I was thinging about would be GPS. Maybe the cell service is not up to snuff at this time.

We are building roads and homes faster than the maps can be put out.
If I have a job for the next day and do not know were it is, I will use GOOGLE maps or Google Earth if it is to new for maps.

Any intake on this?

The one in my phone works the same as the one in my car. Whilst I agree google maps are a good idea, bit of a pain if you are out on the road and a job comes in. My car satnav is a Route 66 Chicago 600 and works great. I would just hate to be the guy in the sky looking down and telling people where to go all the time.

Right now I have a UTstarcom PPC6700 for cellphone. I don't have GPS in it but I do use google maps. It is a small download that works pretty good it doesn't tell you directions so you do have to write them down but till I get GPS is works for me.

I bought my GPS from Radio shack and I purchase a extra warrenty for over $50 for 3years,,.it was on sale ie $100,00 off-- You can buy GPS from Bj -Costa with $off- also you can buy a recondition ie Garmin they give you a 1 year warrent for over $100.00 --The Consumer report recomends a Garmin or Tom-Tom some of the cheaper Gps only tells you to go right or left no street name given they do not talk to you??

I use a TomTom and feel it works pretty well, although I had a glitch the other day so used the one in my cell phone. Not quite as convenient or comprehensive, but it did get me where I needed to go, and I think the cost is only $10/month.

One of the best things about the higher end GPS systems is the ability to plan out all your locations in advance, assuming you have your day planned out that is. That feature saves me a lot of time by eliminating backtracking and searching for obscure locations. If you figure a 5 year life span you can get a very good GPS for less than $10/month. If you save 5 minutes a day it pays for itself.

I am looking at getting a Garmin gps as I have seen it in action in my buddies truck and it works nice.

Anyone here use a GPS on a motorcycle? If so, what kind.

I have thought about getting one designed for that purpose, but in addition to the price tag I keep picturing myself riding off a cliff while trying to watch the little screen. I suppose using the audio only would eliminate that possibility, but I kind of like not listening to anything but the wind and the sound of the engine.

Even the most expensive GPS makes sense to me if you are using it for business, but unless you travel a lot I have a hard time justifying one for personal use, and the units designed for motorcycle use are quite a bit more pricey than the ones designed for cars.
