I have a Nicad dremel. Its been in my box for over 6months with no recharge.I too have cut way down on drilling. The quality is so much better if you can avoid the drill.

99% of the time there really isn't a valid reason for drilling a repair. It's really only necessary if you need to pop a bullseye. Other than that, it doesn't make sense. The visual quality is much better if you don't drill. This debate should end and this thread should be closed because there really is no excuse for drilling into the damage.

Starstruck,
So, there is really no excuse? Can you back that up with a detailed description of your technique?
In my previous I asked, how do you do it?

Starstuck, I did not know that you ran the forum to were you say the Thread should be closed. I am glad it is the NO drill way or the highway in doing better repairs.
The thread will moreless close or slow down when everyone stops posting on the thread. If you keep adding fuel to the thread it will keep going on and on.

As I posted earlier I use the round tip bur as a powered scribe, I do not make the pit larger and I do not make it deeper but I sure make it cleaner. Now the question is would you lot who do not drill consider this drilling, personaly I do not I do find I make a better job of roughing any smooth surfaces etc. when using this method.

OK, so bear with me here, I'm thinking that you can clean out the pit with a scribe or, as Graham said, use a small bur as a powered scribe.

That said, I'm asking, does anyone then use a needle to pop the break or a probe to flex it and hopefully open it up?

Gary,

You have asked how stone chip repairs(not cracks) can be repaired without drilling and I have extended an offer to discuss it with you. Not sure with your curiostity on this topic why you have not taken me up on it. The offer still stands should you desire.
