Default Car lots

Despite my training to coldcall, I decided a fantastic intersection would be the way to go. Got the permits, bought the new banner-to go along with a loaner- set up my canopy and Voila!!
2 days of nobody stopping in?:~(
I've spent a month getting this set up- hope business picks up & SOON!

Hey Win, hang in there. The definition of a fool is someone who does the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. This is not you. Perservere my friend, as you seem to be doing, and good things will begin to happen. Have patience with retail, it takes time to build a retail spot. I went through 3 spots before I got one that gave me enough traffic to build on. The 1st spot I had, I thought would be awesome. I got 8 jobs in 6 weeks. I moved on. Keep cold calling, you need some decent fleet accounts to carry you through hard times. Be consistent with your hours at any retail spot. Customers need to know your going to be there when they hit the rock lottery. List some more details of where you are set up so maybe we can make some suggestions. Have patience, but keep trying different things. It takes alot of hard work. Go with you gut feelings. Life rewards ACTION. Keep your chin up and do what it takes, you will have what you want.

Hello Win
dont give up, just perservere. Personally I would never set up on a busy intersection. It just looks cheap and nasty and is not the image you would wish to portray. I find that when I set up in a shopping mall car park it helps to have a full car windscreen on a stand with a before and after example repair highlighted with cut vinyl stickers. Check out an example on the "vehicle graphics" post. With nothing to look at customers will as a rule walk right past you, so give them something to look at and something to touch  . If someone stops and runs their finger over the repaired chip on my screen, I have 99% got a job. I simply ask if their vehicle is chipped. If they reply "yes", I then say "pop it in here and I will repair it for you" and most do. Sounds simple doesn't it. But having a screen really does make all of the difference. What I do is buy a brand new screen. The cheapest available (around $50). Create a before and after, but just make sure you do a good job!. Try it and let us all know if it works for you.
Have a great 2004. If you need any more advice, feel free to ask.

Default Hang in there

Hey Win,

While things might seem to be off to a slow start, don't forget that this time of year can be slow for some businesses. Everybody is more concerned with vacation time and finding that gift that little Sally just has to have.

However, as a suggestion, just because you may not be repairing any windshields at the moment, doesn't mean that you can't be working on obtaining more business. You could be thumbing through the phonebook and setting up appointments to speak with fleet managers (or at least getting permission to fax some details). Also, you may want to keep an eye peeled for any company vehicles that pass by. Jot down the business name and number and give them a ring as well.

one thing I have found out is that people do not what fly-by-nite folks. Now I am not saying that you are fly-by-nite at all. You may have to sit there for a few days or on a regular time frame so people get the clue that you are going to be there and when they do get a chip they know were you are.
They are not thinking of there W/S at this time. It is that time of the year for us. " we are the last thing on there mind"

I die down from thanks giving to the new year all the time. I do take advantage of it to a point..

When you sit at the site, pretend you are on the phone and booking appointments on your hood with an appointment book flipping the pages, it looks good that way. or when a car does pull into a parking lot next to you scan the w/s before they see you scaning from your car and, if there is a chip in it walk up to them as if they were your apointment that was to meet you. Just say "are you mr. or miss. "any name will do"? When they say know, just say "I am sorry I was to look for "what ever the car is" But I geuss they are running late.. While I am here waiting would you like me to fix your w/s? soume times it works.. People are shy also to ask.

Wow, we have some very clever individuals posting!
I like the activity scene notion, people love a show. That flows directly into the touchy/feely concept- I personally identify with that.
My intersection has a long traffic light- so unless people are on their cell-phones, they like to watch action- I know it's working cause they get honked at when I'm setting up the canopy!
The assumed ID/appointment is brilliant!
Thanks guys & Best Wishes for 04!
Ken
