Good cutout tools???

I've been in the business solo by myself for 15 years this month.
The tools I use are the good ole' cold knife, and Equalizer, a long knife by Olfa and a "pipe knife aka a long knife. I've used a windshield setting stick like the one Equalizer sells and didn't like it much. A good set of suction cups helps. Keeps you from having to hold the bottom of the shield and getting thane on your hand making a mess.

Lee, I agree two man sets with the size of some of the WS. Some of the one man shops need an extra hand, I have used the Solo from Aeigis and it works great. Better than the other knock offs.

I remember trying to set on of those old Mercedes WS rubber gasket sets with the chrome insert you would hammer in with a rubber mallet and "bone". Every time I got the bottom in on the side I was on the other side would pop out of the gasket .
I wound up asking kids walking home from school to help me out.

I DON'T have two people thats why I was asking if it worked well on two-man windshields.

I hear that. I hate having to do two-man sets by myself. Thats one of the big reasons I left the world of corporate auto glass...I just wasn't willing to hurt myself seriously by setting huge windows alone.

Now when I get a two man shield I get my brother or a friend to go with me. Thats why I was asking about the setting stick. Thought it might make life easier.

i don't think the tool will work if they have a rack on most work truck.
i work on few truck that have truck rack that's in the way of w/s.
you no those truck rack,that you have to go under to install w/s.

Yeah I hate those AG4.

Nothing worse then getting out to something simple like a 1256 or 1319 and its got a ladder rack thats in your way.

I have a setting stick, and it helps. You just need to be able to juggle to hold the windshield and then move the stick. Until you get used to it, it is easy to touch the glue.

For non power cutouts I use the Y-handled cold knife and three blades. Love that knife. Once you get used to it, you will wonder why folks stick with the regular cold knives. I can push this sucker like a jack plane or pull with one hand and the blade stays where I want.

For power tools I would recommend an Express, 120 volt model. The battery jobbers are fine for small vehicles, but seem to bog down on a big truck. The 120 will cruise thru the 18 wheelers like butter.

The solo works? From the pix I've seen it looks like it would blow up a door glass.

i found this tool in an autoglass mag its called "the little buddy" . www.lilbuddypro.com not sure of the price but it would be worth it what ever it is. there is a video link on the bottem of the front page. i dont know how to put it on here. if any can that would be great. you can set a very large van or larger windshield by yourself with ease.
