Some can be removed with a thin heated putty knife, but others require special tools and/or procedures. I've been out of the replacement side too long to be of much help here, but the following sites may give you a place to start researching while you wait for replies from technicians more qualified to answer than me.

Some people remove them because the are not working properly and they do not want them replaced, but if you are intending to replace it or re-attach the original one you will likely need a kit from the manufacturer or an after market source. Your glass supplier should be able to help you with special tools, kits, and replacement pads.

w/shield has peremiter bracket on it . sensor isn't stuck to glass. Mirror holds sensor to glass. Sensor seems to be stuck to glass but isn't. after a while the sensor will seem to be stuck but heat releases it. HTH
