Re: american windshield repair systems

I am just starting out but have repaired about 50 practice chips and 40 or so customers(Been mentored by a man with 25 years of experience who used the American repair system and recommended it to me). I am generally happy with the performance of the American repair system except for the vacuum cycl...

Re: Long cracks

I do long cracks up to 24" and get a lot of business with it. I charge $20 more than a chip for crack under 12" and $30 more from over 12-24." Still a lot cheaper than replacing, quicker, and you don't lose original seal. UB is company I use, takes more practice than chip repair and it needs to be c...

Re: Long cracks

Amen on all points Windshield911! I personally find chip repair more lucrative than long crack repair due to the extra time involved and I personally would not be happy with a long crack, repaired or not, in my windshield so it has never been my primary focus. However, I've certainly done my share o...

Re: Long cracks

Probably 95% of my business is chips. Chips are much quicker and you can do multiple w/s at the same time. That being said I still couldn't resist doing crack repairs. I started thinking how many cracks I was passing up on a weekly basis. Just like chip repairs you need to inform the customer the cr...

Re: What if?

I always explain the process and pressure involved before work. Remind them that their windshield is broken and WILL get worse if left alone. We are attempting to stop that but it could spread during repair. Have waiver preprinted on workorder explaining the above, not a Guaranteed process and not l...

Re: What if?

Bill it is way less likely to happen if you know what causes many of them to do so.

I do agree with the others on prepping a customer, undersell and over deliver is one of our business motto's.

Re: What if?

Crack outs are very rare if proper tecniques are followed, however if something appears to be unstable or high risk, warn the customer in advance. Cover your *** so to speak. Been doing this 12 years. Nearly 19,000 repairs. Only 2 that cracked beyond repair during the wsr process.

Re: pricing

I charge about 70% of normal fee. The problem with a lot of used auto dealers, they always want to low ball. Many do repairs on those that they have a buyer wanting the WSR as part of the purchase agreement. Used dealers rotate cars around and don't want to invest money unless its a must. I have a d...

Re: pricing

I charge 80% of my standard price of $50.00. Haven't raised my price in 10 years, so won't do it for less.
