Re: Cut out tools

I’ve used the Fein many times over 28 yrs and BTB on occasion. . Don’t be afraid to use a variety of tools to remove the glass. The goal is to do it without damage to the vehicle or as little as possible as many new cars already have factory set rubbing against paint. Fein, BTB and other plunge or o...

Re: Best Brand windshield

Pilkington would be manufacturer I would go with and they have the glass available still. However I would recommend having a qualified tech do the install. For that year I would definitely do a full strip to base paint. Prep, primer and use correct height set blocks so your moldings fit correctly to...

Re: Add on sales/services

I’m a full service glass shop so replacement/repair is bulk of what I do with HLR as a big upsell. But to answer your question I am always looking for additional revenue. The easiest way for me is when I’m doing a preinspection on a car and chatting with customer. You find other things that need fix...

Re: The networks

Third party is unfortunalty what we have with most all major and medium insurance companies now. There are a couple small ones you can direct bill but maybe only 1-2 jobs a year as their client base is small. I have family members that worked at top levels of claims for major insurance companies. Th...

Re: How to increase speed? Average windshield replacement a day?

Concentrate on doing the job perfect and to industry standards every time. That persons life is in your hands. No matter how fast you do a job if you don’t do it right you’ll be going back to fix it. What’s the point of doing 8+ jobs a day if you miss things from rushing and end up having to fix the...

Re: Replacing windshield on 2014 Mazda 6

Do yourself a favor and only use original factory glass. Several automobile manufacturers have openly stated they will not warranty any issues with the system if a non OE (factory) glass is used. For liability issues as well as compatibility issues I have only used factory OE glass with these equipp...

Re: How many Lynx claims do you submit?

I maybe do 15-20 a year through Lynx.
They don't cover repairs here and a lot of State Farm insureds seem to have high deductibles so most of the jobs go cash.
I easily do 60-80 State Farm cash conversions a year.

Re: Just say no

Even when I worked for the big companies managing their stores I never had a problem saying NO. Dealers or fleets that burn my time were out and especially if they released vehicle to customer before SDAT achieved. I lit into a GM at a huge dealership once when I saw the car I just did a w/s replace...

Re: Do you have a Facebook page?

I have a personal page and a business page. Paying for ads on FB was great a year or two ago. $100 targeted area ad would generate $4-6k. Now maybe $2k. New metrics in how FB advertise your ads and people's filters have reduced viability of ads. Paid ads in general even through google have had dimin...

Re: Advice needed.

Have them fix it as it is definite damage during install due to carelessness. Request a body shop fix the paint. Unfortunately a very common problem in this industry. The other concern is if they damaged your paint and didn't say anything what else could be wrong with the install. Is your dash and i...
