Re: Striking out with car lots

You will hear that almost every place you go to. Plus the "we've got a guy" line. And they probably do. Just have to keep plugging away. It's a numbers game. It takes time to develop your "sales" approach.

Re: Advice for beginner?

Don't pre-judge by thinking they won't need service. You know they need it, they know they need it. Like screenman points out some of the best accounts take effort to get. But when you do they are worth it. Timing also plays a big part. You could walk onto a lot tomorrow morning & be working. Never ...

Re: Fear the drill and tap??

Spring hammer looks like it would be handy. Especially for the legs that don't cooperate.

Re: Best places to hand out business cards?

As far as soliciting new dealer /car lot accounts I've never been asked to do a demo. But it does happen so you do need to be prepared. Once in a while they just say go to work. Also for personal cars some will stand there watching & questioning you. Not to be pain but just out of curiosity or they ...

Re: Fear the drill and tap??

Still being relatively new as well take this for what it's worth. To me it's a matter of finding the 'sweet spots' of how much to drill & how hard to tap. Which depends on where & why you're doing this. Is it to open up a break, terminate a crack, a leg won't fill? Tapping is a matter of feel. You'r...

Re: insurance billing checklist benefits?

When you can bill ins co's you can offer people "free" repairs. Some TPN's will call you w/ jobs. I don't think you can make a living from that alone but it could be a few bucks a week anyway. The downside is having to travel just for one repair. When you get a few accounts then you can plan a route...

Re: Non-compete agreements

Speaking w/ your attorney is the best bet to make sure it's all legal like. Keep in mind that if you ever need / want to enforce it, that's going to cost & probably be time consuming. And may wind up being a waste of resources in the end. When the time comes I would definitely use one though. Someti...

Re: Invoices

Why not just use a generic invoice book? They're numbered & run about $5-$7 for a book of 50. Use a self-inking stamp w/ your biz info to stamp cust's copy. Custom forms are nice looking but can be costly.

Re: Suface chip - no visible break

As far as retail, you can explain what they can expect & if they want to pay a few bucks that's up to them. But what about insurance jobs? That seems like the ricky one.

Suface chip - no visible break

I've had few jobs where there is a surface chip on the glass but no visible break or bullseye. Looks more cosmetic than damage. Sort of like a paint chip. Seems all it would need is pit filler. Is there anything to do to make sure there is no break? I did flex around the area & checked from inside. ...
