Pruning necessary for a healthy forum

Just like trees, forums need to be pruned occasionally to keep them healthy. Battling spambots is a constant problem as we have to continually change our anti-spam measures. One anti-spam measure we use from time to time is member pruning. What this means is that we deactivate members who have not logged in to the forum for a period of time, usually 12 months or longer, and/or have not made any posts for 24 months or longer.

We also delete any members that we know have been registered by spambots and ban those members.

Recently we were inundated with new members that were registered by spambots, artificially inflating our membership. Today those members were pruned, as were a significant number of inactive members. As with tree pruning, there is an occasional unintended limb, or in this case member, that gets pruned. If you experience problems logging in to the forum please contact one of the forum moderators immediately so we can get your account reactivated.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
