My first dry sanding HLR

I use water when its warm out and turn to 99.8% alcohol to do the final cleaning after the compound during the winter months. If theres any moisture on the lens when you apply the 4.1, the lens will turn white as it cures.

Spot the difference? That's why it's not clear

So after my first attempt, I will need to redo them. They look good as far as all the old coating cleaning up, but they still have a little haze to them...not crystal clear. Without seeing pictures, where do you think I messed up and what step do I need to go back to? My steps were 320, 500, 800, 1200, 1500 and 3000.

You didn't use one in your sequence. That's why they were cloudy.

You can polish then until you retire with a 3000 pad, it will never be crystal.

Still not sure what Pommy is talking about but if I take a stab at it, Ill guess that hes suggesting the use of a compound after the 3000 stage. IMO, thats a must.

That's what's so nice about this process....there are several ways to achieve your goal!!

I haven't used a compound or polish in five years and my results are also crystal clear!!

Merry Christmas to all !! BlakeRam, Pommy has his own method of doing HLR. I use the same method at times. The sequence of pads you listed are recommended, and it does a great job. However there are times you will have HLs that require something more. Pommy's method works. It shortens the sanding when doing hard-to-do lenses and doesnt require as many pads. You will learn little techniques the more you do HLRs that will reduce your time factor and can save you money. Wishing all of you a Happy & Productive New Year. Candyman
