Clean 2 Prep Spray

Post by cvilleHR »

How necessary is the Clean-2-Prep? I've never understood why we use a spray that removes oxidation from the surface of the lens, right before we sand the entire surface that we just cleaned off. Can anyone clarify? Is it just to prevent clogging the sanding disc up with junk?

It does help minimize clogging the sanding discs with contaminates, but using Clean2Prep to pull out some of the discoloration and contaminates from the surface of the lens prior to sanding has an additional purpose. Because the polycarbonate is so soft and porous and the factory coating may have already deteriorated, contaminates can actually be ground deeper into the surface of the lens during the sanding process. The contaminates will eventually be removed if you sand deep enough, however using C2P will in most cases reduce the sanding necessary to accomplish this task.

You certainly would not polish a car without washing it thoroughly first. The same wisdom should be used when restoring headlights.
