Drill deeper and tap lighter, for sure having the glass laying down will create far more stress.

Thanks Screenman, I figured it out. Can only use the sides of a windshield on a work stand.

Which tool do you prefer to use to terminate the crack? I am planning to get one and not sure which is preferred

Slide Hammer
22005

Spring Hammer with Depth Gauge
22001

If you are new to drilling and popping then I would say the 22001.

I agree with Screenman. The spring hammer is extremely easy to use and pops bullseyes perfectly usually on the first try. The depth gauge has helped tremendously while practicing to get used to the depth of drilling. Just remember that windshields can differ in thickness.

It's tough....about anyway you look at it, it's a crap shoot at best. Cracks are very unpredictable and in my experiences, more times than not the crack will make an unexpected turn when trying to run it. Finding the end of the crack is more of an adventure. I get enough business with rock chips that I have started turning them down. The few extra bucks you make on one is not worth the uncertainty that you may damage the windshield more or have it come back later. Just my opinion and decisions of course.
