I am just wondering if you buy one of these franchises what do you get in return from these companys ie in the way of work ie fleet accounts network etc :?: :?: :?: :?:

Why would you pay for a francise when you can start your own business and keep more of your money in your pocket. You still have to generate leads. You are talking repair only. Replacement is anothe issue and a lot of investment for tools, equipment, and training with a professional installer.
There are plenty of people on this forum & information that can help you decide which supplier is best for you for WS repair. Ensure you are trained properly by your supplier and practice. To succeed requires a lot of planning, and training on your part. The jobs are not going to fall at your door step without working for it. I almost made the mistake of a francise prior to talking to DK. I thank my lucky stars that iam not tied to a monthly payment and having to answer to someone else. I own my business and I take responsibility for the success or failure of it. Just saying, think twice and think again before committing yourself to the unknown.

Franchise is not for everybody for sure but there are certain people that will be better off with franchise.Superglass is top notch ! I am not by any way a franchise for sure.Some people cannot see the forest for the trees.Dont take for granit the skill you have at this businesss guys .More failure than succes stories!

When buying into a Franchise ,the Franchise do deals or sighn contracts with a vendor ie Ryder/Penske/Sears or a car rental company or a network and advises the new Franshise Windshield Repair account of these vendors they are sighned up with??? A non franchise Windshield Repair shop has to do there own leg work in getting there own accts :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I guess if they had contracts that you would work in your area It might be worth taking a look at? I know a guy in your neck of the woods who bought a existing buisness because they had a lock with several of the big Rental Car companies in the area Airports. previos guy was retiring he paid 50 k and 10% of the volume for 5 years. At the time I thought he was nuts but 3 full time guys and 100k per guy billed a year as well as his 100k I guess it was worth it. :)

I started with Novus over here and done well as I managed to sell them before they messed up big style in the UK. Very few of the big name contracts they had gave us work, in fact in many cases the local managers did not like HQ telling them what to do.

Also the 10% is off of the turnover not the profit so can be very costly, most franchise sellers are in business to sell franchises and this is where most of their income comes from.

If you are going to succeed in this trade you will do it if you go franchise or not, failure would be a lot less costly non franchised though.

Since my company name, SuperGlass, is mentioned I would like to respond.

Although I would be the first to admit that owning a franchise isn’t for everyone, I think the answer is not in how much you pay for your business, but how much you make from your business.

If a person pays $15K to $25K for a turnkey franchise, and makes double, triple or even quadruple that amount each year, it would seem to be good value. Some of our Franchisees make ten times annually what they paid for their franchise.

The royalty is 4% and doesn’t seem like a burden to them as our primary focus every day is to get them the customers they want. We spend a week with lab and office training and another week in the field getting repeat customers and polishing the technical skills to get them started. We continue to support their growth for customers for as long as they are a franchise.

Granted, being a member of a franchise chain does require some cooperation amongst the Franchisees. We promise to be in uniform on every job, we promise to honor a nationwide guarantee of 100% satisfaction and we sometimes have to compromise to help support the big picture of service. But, the people that end up in this business model seem to enjoy it and prosper from it.

There are many models to choose from to be successful in windshield repair, this is just the one I chose to follow and have really enjoyed building SuperGlass this way.

Hey Big Welshman, I shouldn't be doing any marketing of my company on Brent's site and not my purpose of the post. But, I would say that marketing is critical to success in this business, even with a great repair. I also think constant marketing is neccessary to keep your business with healthy growth. I always liked the Mountain Bell motto of, "You're either making dust or eating dust".

A good franchise company provides ongoing marketing for their franchisees and we think that is one key to our success. My advice to individual repairers is, if you can't market well, hire someone to do it for you. Do what you do best and hire out what you need but don't do well or don't enjoy doing. You never know when the next new account you get might turn into the best account you have.
