Thermal Cycling Test on Resin

Also, this is for Delta Kits - Would this be new testing for you guys, or has this already been part of your R&D?

How with a heat gun are they going to do that, far better to make sure everyone out there is drying out and using a UV shield and of course not doing a magical heat repair. Muppets, the same as we have over here conducting tests and setting standards.

Thermal cycling has always been an important part of Delta Kits resin testing procedures. What remains to be seen is how ROLAGS intends to regulate the testing and confirm compliance. More importantly, what will they do about those who claim to be in compliance but are not. This is the problem the British and Australia standards have as well. Anyone can claim they have had their products tested in accordance to the standards, but neither will publish a list of those who actually have. ROLAGS is still one step behind them in my opinion, in that they have testing facilities where all testing must be done in person...or at least that is the way it was done the last time we had our products tested. ROLAGS has no such facility that I am aware of.

There has been talk of sending in resin samples to allow for third party testing but there are numerous problems with that as well. For instance, how would the testing facility know that the product in the bottle was actually the product being sold by the company who submitted it? Frankly there are plenty of reasons to doubt the honesty and integrity of many industry suppliers, so if we are going to trust them to be honest about that, what is the point of the testing?

In my opinion, our industry simply does not have the resources to cover all the bases at this time. Only time will tell if that will change.

You are too right, Screen: muppets.

Regulations, regulations, regulations.
It is all about money, power, control.
Pathetic.

They do nothing about the real problems.
Make sure everyone in this trade is PROPERLY trained.
No training = no work.
No work = no income.

Nobody wants to work for free.
A big part of the problem will be solved very quickly.

Re: Frank EU 's comment that everyone should be properly trained:
How do you propose that? A government administered test? More fees and fewer tangible improvements except another layer of government intrusion?
Here in Texas, home of the still free American, we have a saying "let the free market decide who deserves to stay in business"
Stay the hell out of my business! Let my customers decide if I deserve to stay in business!
My advice to new bees:
Get a practice windshield from any glass company that has a dumpster.
Practice practice practice and pick the brains of whomever you purchased your kit.
When you stop screwing up and can do a repeatable repair( it will happen) go out and sell yourself.
There are so many threads on marketing here I need not repeat them.
Frank with all due respect since I am sure you are a great guy, here in Texas ( don't know about that other North American place called America?) we don't look for government coddling and regulation like they do in Europe. Free markets rule!

Most of the trainers and industry assessors over here have very little idea of how to do quality repairs. I have dummy shopped and met with others to discus the trade and skills, the lack of knowledge is outstanding.

Agreed. More govt regulation only ends up costing legitimate businesses more money as the scab shops just keep flying under the radar with their "cheapest price in town" deals. People will always flock to the low price hacks. Then they come see me to fix it later and realize what quality work is. Free market has worked beautifully for me since 1990.
