Weird dirty effect on windshield, like spider webs.

Post by Alexandroid »

Has anyone seen a spider web looking film on the windshield that won't clean off? If you get the window wet, and clean it with soap, it looks like it's gone until it dries.

I can't find anything on this one and any attempt to look for spiderweb and windshield leads to articles about cracks which this isn't.

I'll get a picture of it tomorrow and upload it.

Thanks!

Two possible causes a) Marks left from rubber suckers, used in the glass manufacture ( silicone contamination) b) marks caused by plastic packaging, the windscreen was kept in prior to fitting, being soaked ( usually by being left out in the rain ) and the chemical in the plastic bag stains the glass. Remedy? the glass will need to be thoroughly polished using jeweller's rouge, or similar, until the contamination is removed. You will also have to replace the wiper blades because they will also be contaminated.
