I am hoping some one might be able to help with this question. I applied for an EIN number when it asks for the name of the business I put ( B & M Windshield Repair when I get to the very end and get ready to submit it, it comes back with (B&M Windshield Repair ) not sure why it is inserting the amp; . Calling the IRS but i am not able to talk to a human just recordings.

Thanks for any help or comments

Not sure which State you are in sounds like you need to contact the SOS office in your state to resolve it

Maybe you should change the symbol between the B and M, the website may not recognize it.

RCRNR and Sunshine I know both of you'll are right, I cant talk to a real person at the IRS to get help with the problem and I don't think its a state issue not sure, as far as changing the & sign to and my business name and DBA ( do business as ) paper work have the & sign I will find out if it matters if I put and on the IRS form it probably does not. I am a sole owner so I have read that I don't need the EIN # I can use my SSN, but to get a business bank account I have been asked for it. I am sure It will work out some how, but thanks for the advice.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but as a sole proprietor your SSN is your EIN, isn’t it?

You can use your SSN. I prefer not to. Fraud is to rampant.

So how does that work for a sole proprietor that does this part time and also has a full time job come tax time? Is there a way to use both? Your SSN for the full time job and an EIN for the business?

You can use both, just register a DBA for your sole proprietorship. https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia ... d-ein.html

I'm not an expert on this but if I were just getting started I would consider an LLC. Might be worth discussing with a CPA. http://bloomlawfirm.com/articles/31/lim ... rietorship
