I just had my windshield professionally replaced earlier today and noticed there were some openings/gaps with the new molding installed by the windshield replacement company. Is this common for new windshield replacement jobs and will this be an issue with water seeping through the gaps? This is my first time getting a windshield replaced and it seems like they used the wrong molding for my car.

Yikes! That would certainly not be acceptable to me. I don't do replacements anymore but I would never have allowed a vehicle to leave my shop looking like that.

Is it the wrong molding? Probably not but it almost looks like they reused the old molding, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but in this case you have splits in the corners that should not be there and it is obviously not laying flat against the metal as it should.

Will you have water leaks? Maybe but not necessarily. The molding has little to do with the seal between the glass and the pinchweld (metal the windshield is bonded to). However, when you see signs of sloppy installation you have to wonder what else may have been done incorrectly.

Have you returned it to the shop? What did they say about it?

Wrong Molding, Wrong Windshield? Definitely WRONG INSTALLER! Wow I would shut down my shop the next day if I had that quality of work. I would definitely recommend a re-do.

I hope things have changed but when I installed 28 years ago, Safelite's windshields could look like this!
