Filling surface pits

Post by crackhead »

I've read other threads with comments indicating that filling surface pits was not a good idea and was only a temporary fix. I've had customers insist that they wanted surface pits that were not actually chips that had broken through the outer layer of glass fixed. I'm talking about the type of surface damages that do not need to be injected. I've explained to them that these type of deep pits are really not at risk of cracking or opening up but they wanted them fixed anyway. Even a next door neighbor insisted on having one of these fixed. What I do is drill deeper into the pit as well as using the bit to rough up more of the pit area. Then I simply fill with pit resin, cure, clean off and polish. The one I did for my neighbor has been there for 3 years and still looks fine (the resin has not flaked out).

sounds fine to me as long as it is made clear that there is a chance it will fall out because its not a complete break. thats what I tell people.
